“The Nest- 2011” Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
This painting talks about the complexity of life, its preciousness, and its erosion. The ‘death mask’ in the centre of the piece shows how life is endangered at every level, and how death sits within ‘birthplaces’. In this instance these can be interpreted as a nest OR a fallopian tube. The pure greens and blues show the simple beauty of life, which is then jarred by the golden ‘skull’ in the middle; fraught with complexities, cracks, and malignancy which threaten to break through and pollute the environment around it.
